Drums of Ireland

Paul's 'intro to the Bodhran is the place to start for bodhran

Most folks know that the bodhran is a drum which has its traditional roots in Ireland, but few people know about the other Irish drum, the Lambeg drum.

Irish Drumming

Pelo is a Romany word for brother or friend, it is designed for two players and he views it as a friendship drum for his country. It's a mix between a chudaiko (scale and pitch) a big dun dun (tensioning and tuning mechanism) and a kit drum (the two heads are independently tunable) Thanks to our correspondent in Northern Ireland, Paul Marshall for help with this page. Paul's two drumming websites are quite awesome in their own right: Powerhaus, and Drum Dojo...

Like everywhere nowadays, it's not all just traditional drums of Ireland. Paul has invented the PeloDrum, a large drum of a new design. "Pelo" is a Romany word for brother or friend, it is designed for two players and he views it as a friendship drum for his country. It's a mix between a chu daiko (scale and pitch) a big dun dun (tensioning and tuning mechanism) and a kit drum (the two heads are independently tunable).

Paul is based in Bangor, Northern Ireland, and he is pushing the envelope of what is going on over there. Go, Paul! If you have questions or comments, you can write to paul@powerhaus.net .
